General Description

The overall objective of the Cork Main Drainage scheme was to eliminate foul discharges to the River Lee by collecting all foul flows from Cork City and environs and conveying them to a new wastewater treatment plant located at Little Island, Co. Cork. The IS04 contract was implemented to collect wastewater from Horgan’s Quay, Water Street, Lower Glanmire Road, Tivoli Estate, Lovers’ Walk, Silversprings and Mayfield areas and transfer foul wastewater to 2 nr. river crossings.

  • 5 nr. large pumping stations
  • The interception of foul connections from buildings and existing sewers, rerouting and connecting same to the new foul sewers
  • 329 nr. Manholes ranging in depths from 1.1m – 8.8m
  • Approximately 12000 lin.m of foul sewers, diameters ranging from 225mm – 1800mm at depths ranging from 1.1m -8.8m
  • 1800 lin.m of trenchless pipelines beneath railway lines at depths from 2.0m – 8.5m
  • Approximately 900 lin.m of DI rising main
