We are delighted to announce we have reached the substantial completion milestone on the Glashaboy Flood Relief Scheme in Glanmire, Cork.

Delivered on behalf of Cork City Council – Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí, with funding from the Office of Public Works, this significant project has delivered much-needed flood protection and infrastructure improvements throughout the Glashaboy River catchment.

Over the course of the project, our team delivered a range of challenging works, including:
🔹 New flood defence walls and embankments
🔹 Channel widening and deepening works
🔹 Replacement and improvement of culverts and bridges
🔹 New flood relief pumping stations
🔹 Flood overflow infrastructure
🔹 New footpaths, road surfacing, and public lighting
🔹 Improvements to the surrounding road network and public realm

A huge well done to the Sorensen team who worked tirelessly throughout the project to deliver these complex works safely, efficiently and to the highest standards in quality. From challenging construction conditions to working within a busy urban centre, the team consistently demonstrated professionalism, commitment, and a strong focus on finding solutions.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our project partners Cork City Council, OPW, Arup, Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG), Ayesa Engineering – UK and Ireland, CHM, and all our subcontractors and suppliers for their collaboration and support throughout the project.

We are delighted to announce that Tim has joined Sorensen as Head of Environment & Sustainability.

Tim brings a wealth of expertise in site environmental management, compliance, and ecological oversight across major infrastructure and civil engineering projects.

As we continue to deliver high-quality, complex projects, Tim will play a vital role in upholding our environmental standards, driving sustainable construction practices, and protecting local ecosystems across all our operations.

Earlier this summer, the Sisk x Sorensen JV reached an important milestone on the Adare Bypass with the successful installation of the bridge girders over the River Maigue.

Spanning 210m across three spans, including a 94m central span over the river, the bridge presented a significant engineering and logistical challenge. Months of detailed planning went into the lifting operation, with all lifts successfully completed over a 15-day programme.

The works also saw one of the largest crawler cranes operating in Ireland and the UK brought to site, supporting the installation of a bridge incorporating approximately 2,500 tonnes of steel.

It’s a major piece of infrastructure taking shape and one that will play an important role in improving connectivity across the region.

The Adare Bypass forms Phase 1A of the wider Foynes to Limerick Road project, connecting two new interchange junctions at Adare and Croagh and progressing towards completion ahead of the Ryder Cup in 2027.

Behind every lift is months of planning, precision, and collaboration by our vastly experienced site team. We’re proud to be part of the Joint Venture team delivering this landmark project.

We’re delighted to see the Ringaskiddy Relief Road now open to traffic, marking an important milestone for the surrounding area and forming part of the wider M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Project.

Appointed by Cork County Council as Main Contractor for the Protected Road Section from Barnahely to Ringaskiddy, Sorensen Civil Engineering was proud to deliver approximately 1.5 kilometres of new single carriageway, including new roundabouts at:
• Barnahely
• Loughbeg
• East of Ringaskiddy

A project of this scale is only possible through the commitment and collaboration of our project team, client, stakeholders, supply chain, and everyone who contributed throughout construction.

A special thanks to our site team for their hard work and dedication in bringing the project from mobilisation through to completion.
